31 Day Challenge Day 16 - Tribal

Hey guys!

Tiny bit late on this post, but no big! I had a hellish day yesterday and I just crashed when I got home.

Today's challenge prompt was supposed to be tribal but seeing as I was feeling uninspired and very short on time to actually attempt a complicated tribal mani, I kept it simple but close to the heart again. I chose to do a mani inspired by the indian tribes that were the original residents of Puerto Rico- the taínos. I started with a base of OPI Don't Pretzel My Buttons (a very mannequin hands polish!) and sponged a gradient with L'Oreal Now You Sea Me and a random white polish to simulate the beach. Then, on my pinkie I used a fine tip Sharpie marker and acrylic paint with a striping brush on my ring finger.

The ring finger is the classic taíno depiction of the coquí, our natural little tree frog that sings us to sleep. It's weird, visitors sometimes find the sound annoying but, when I'm traveling I really miss the sound, it's comforting. The smeared sad pinky was a spiral I saw in the image I used for inspiration. My idea was to do their depiction of the sun, but it was a little more complicated than I wanted.

I'm sorry this was short on explanations, I'm pooped as I write this.

As always, make sure to visit the other ladies to see their tribal manis!

Summer Fun Challenge Day 4 - We like it Hot, Hot, Hot!

Hey all!

So I had no idea where to go with this mani. I thought of doing some type of needle marbling for a melting sunset illusion, a nighttime stars mani, but they all failed. Finally, I thought to do something with neons since they're the hot trend of the summer so, still without a plan, I got to work.

I started with a base of Essie Blanc, then applied Pop Beauty Mandarin and sponged with China Glaze Surfin' for Boys. When I was done I thought it looked 'sunsetty' so I used black acrylic paint and my new brushes and just did some palm trees. In real life, the effect is quite stunning, not because of my sad little palm tress, but because of the sharp contrast of the black on top of the neons.

Is it just me or are the edges of the palm trees glowing? They're neon I tell you!

I think my little palm trees look like dreadlocks for some reason. Makes me giggle.

Hopefully I'll have something better for you next round, and as always, remember to see what the other ladies did! (It's most probably better than mine)

Black and White Challenge Day 2 - White on Black

Hello all! I know I said I would have regular posts in between but I wore the past mani until I had to take it off to do this one so I had nothing to show you until now. Onto the nails!

Today's task was white on black. I had a couple of ideas but they coincided with future days in the challenge so I just kept it simple for today. I used Wet 'N Wild black creme and white acrylic paint.

I ... don't know what this is. I wanted stripes but they didn't come out clean enough, so I removed it. Didn't really want to stamp so I just tried it again. Maybe it looks tribal? Shoelaces? You tell me

Remember to check the other girls' blogs to see their (better) ideas!
