31 Day Challenge Day 8 - Metallic

Hey all!

Continuing on with our 31 day challenge, today's nails were metallic! Originally, I did a mani with metallic polishes (which you may see in a separate post) but then I saw that Sarah at Chalkboard Nails used magnetic polishes for her metallic challenge, and I remembered something from my 'manis to do' list and decided to use that instead.

It's a magnetic gradient! As Sarah said, magnetic polishes use metallic particles for the effect so it kinda counts :P. I know I've seen this somewhere before, but I didn't save the bookmark apparently so if you know who I should credit, let me know in the comments!

EDIT: Big thanks to Lani who knew it was at Esmaltes da Kelly that I saw this originally! (Clicky)

I started with one coat of Nails Inc. Houses of Parliament (purple) and then sponged Nails Inc. Whitehall (teal/green) on top. When I was happy with the gradient, I applied top coat one by one and applied the magnet immediately for the effect. I used a slow drying top coat just in case so the polish wouldn't dry without producing a strong effect.

The gradient was a bit too subtle for my liking but the other contrasting magnetic polish I have has glitter and it's a huge pain to clean up, so I decided against it. Otherwise, I really love the effect! Magnetic polishes are still cool in my eyes, especially since it looks 3D a lot of the time :D.

What do you think? Something you would try?

Remember to visit the other ladies participating for their metallic manis!

  2. Yup. This officially kicks ass. I must try this. I still love magnetics as well. I havent picked up any new ones, although I had the new CG magnetix in my hands the other day. Didn't really dig the colors since I have a bunch of magnetics that are similar. I babble too much. hehehe

    1. I've always overlooked the CG Magnetix because of that same reason, similar colors. Although, since Bregje (Oooh Shinies) said that she just has magnetics to use for stamping, I want all the colors!

I'm Ms. Sally Babble too, no worries :D

    1. You have to work quick when you're ready to apply the magnet so I just polished normally, did the gradient, and topcoated one nail at a time and applied the magnet immediately and viola! :D

  6. Hmm...so magnetic polishes will work with a wet coat of top coat on, even if you let the polish dry before? Interesting... And this is beautiful, by the way.

    1. Yep! The topcoat 'rewets' the polish so the magnet will work again! And thank you :)

  8. so clever!! I think it looks brilliant, and adds another dimension to gradients or just a single colour of magnetic polish. 5 gold stars for you for creativity and ingenuity! :)

  10. Cheese and crackers, that is so neat! :D I'll have to try this ASAP, my magnetic polishes have been utterly neglected once the novelty wore off ^_^

    1. Cheese and crackers is definitely very underused, I approve :D.

My magnetics had too been gathering dust in their little corner.
